The vineyard... our wines contact anglais

Once upon a land, at the confluence of the two Gardons, nested in the foothills of the Cévennes steeped in the history, where neither the present-day hurly-burly nor the abdication of tradition holds court, a vineyard has found its niche. It is itself a place where several grape varieties come together to produce the wines of Mas de la Salle.

A mosaic of small parcels cover nearly eight hectares (not quite twenty acres) where each variety is established in harmony with the soil, its microclimate and environnement. Mas de la Salle is an estate where excessive ground clearing and abusive levelling is taboo.

The vineyard is entirely run on organic principles, wich guarantee the aromas and the unique natural qualities of the wines. It is situated on a small plateau above the river Gardon, two hundred meters above sea level. We benefit from the two advantages of perfect southern exposure to the sun and heat of the Mediterranean, on the one hand, and the cool mountain breezes afforded just below the rocky ridge delimiting the Cevennes mountains, to the other.

The two types of soils present are :

* mountain sediments overlaying rocky dolomite sandstone with a soil analysis showing a fairly light clay concentration,

* a very deep layer of granite sand with an acidic pH level alloxs thorough drainage.

Plantation density at the estate is five thousand five hundred vine plants per hectare, and the vines are pruned and trained in a double cordon. Mas de la Salle grapes are harvested entirely by the hand.

All our wines are derived from grapes cultivated according the rules of the "Nature and Progress" label.
